Niles Goodsite: Directing Skills

For over thirty years, Niles Goodsite has been a consistent figure in the television industry. He started out in the late 1970s when he became a member of the Directors Guild of America. In the years following, his experience presented opportunities to work as an assistant director and stage manager on numerous shows, some of which allowed him to receive the industry’s highest honor, the Emmy Award.

Niles Goodsite’s work as an assistant director is to assume many of the responsibilities of the main director. With the main director often focused on ensuring that the cast delivers their best performance, it will be up to Niles to ensure that much of the project’s behind-the-scenes duties and administrative work is performed to expectations. The role of assistant director requires a hard worker, and Niles Goodsite embraced the role with passion and dedication.

Among the many feature films that Niles Goodsite has worked on as a 2nd Assistant Director include Coyote Ugly, Call Me Claus, Dancing At The Harvest Moon, and Seven. He is also credited with working on the popular Fox Network sitcom Married With Children. For this particular project, Niles was the Stage Manager, and his responsibility was to ensure that the major aspects of the set – lighting, sound and props – worked smoothly. He also was in charge of the production area once the cast received their final notes, and he communicated constantly with the director to get relay any additional instructions to the crews.

About Niles Goodsite

After working as a stage manager for several years, Niles Goodsite was given the opportunity to work with Executive Producers Walter Mosley and Laurence Fishburne as an Assistant Director. His responsibilities were overseeing set maintenance and making sure the filming of the movie coincided with the production schedule. As a first Assistant Director, Niles Goodsite had the opportunity to work on the set of the short film Blood on the Backlot and TV movie Always Outnumbered. He was also Assistant Director for episodic series such as Charmed and Star Trek Deep Space Nine.
